Landscaping Project

IN COLLABORATION WITH TMHA

One current project that our group is pursuing is a housing-quality improvement project that will work together with TMHA. This project seeks to involve students in improving the conditions of the housing provided through TMHA’s supportive housing program. This program will gather groups of qualified Cal Poly students with relevant knowledge to assess and improve the outdoor conditions of these houses in order to assist those in the housing program and to create an impactful relationship between San Luis Obispo’s homeless community and Cal Poly students.

Yard improvements are to include trimming trees, removing trash, blowing leaves, and planting in empty areas of the yard, as well as any potential landscaping improvements that the house may need.

This program will be targeting construction-management and landscape architecture students who will possess the proper skills to enhance the quality TMHA’s housing outdoor areas. It will be important to communicate with the current residents of each house before any work is done to understand how they use their yards and what they would like to see done.

This is an important step in building the relationship between those involved in TMHA and Cal Poly students. We are currently contacting the Cal Poly Construction Management Club in order to get a group of volunteers to start the project.
